Boys Varsity Basketball · STATE CHAMPS

What a week for the boys basketball team. They earned their 1st win at the tournament in school history (3 wins) and then captured the 4A State title defeating Augusta 86-53. This team came to the Tony’s Pizza Center with a ‘game plan’ and they stuck to it. With the help of great crowd support, defensive stops, and timely shots we can crown them CHAMPIONS. The 3 Seniors who have played together the past 4 years brought on the rest of the team for a historic ending of their Pirate careers. Trey Bates led the team with 21 pts, Braijon Barnes added 12 pts & rim rattling dunk, and then Brandan Jackson, on his birthday, threw in 11 pts of his own. With the rest of the team, they have become instant Piper legends for bringing this title to Piper. Below is the rest of the stats and entire 4A State Champion Pirates:

Trey Bates  21 pts, 8 ast, 3 stl, 5 rb

Tamar Bates 20 pts, 2 ast, 1 blk, 5 rb

Ty Shelley  15 pts, 2 ast, 5 rb

Braijon Barnes  12 pts, 3 ast, 1 blk, 2 stl, 4 rb

Brandan Jackson  11 pts, 1 blk, 3 stl, 6 rb

Gabe Eskina  5 pts, 1 ast, 3 stl, 5 rb

Christian Arndt 2 pts, 2 blk, 3 rb

Be proud gentleman & ladies, what a great season, ending on an historic run. Congrats to the coaching staff (Toure’ Grimes, Evan Burns, Gary Beashore, Matt Storrer) and managers (Emma Martin, Belle Gravatt, Kaylin Miller, Chase Ward, Jack Robison) for a great final. Enjoy the next week off.
